If you’re considering renting wedding props such as our large letter lights or event furniture, there are a few things that you need to know before you jump into sticking a deposit down on the first vendor you find on Google. We would encourage you to do your research and know what you’re getting yourself into. After 3 years in the business and working with too many couples to count, we wanted to share a few things that we think you need to know about renting props for your wedding below.
1.Contact Vendors ASAP
Once you have your theme or colour scheme picked out and you have an idea of the kinds of props you will need to rent, you really need to start getting in touch with local vendors as soon as you can. Generally, you should book the props at least 6 months before your wedding as most companies get booked up far in advance of the big day – especially for the summer months and weekends. You will also need to make sure you take delivery times into consideration if you’re hiring props from a vendor that is not local in order to avoid any last-minute panics.
2. Ask the Right Questions
When you’re looking for quotes from vendors, make sure you’re getting the full picture. Ask as much as you can and try to think about every eventuality before you speak to the company. For example, will you be responsible for picking up and dropping off the props? What are the charges if they are damaged or lost? How long can you keep the props? Do they need returning the next day? Do you have to pay a deposit? Is there a charge for delivery? Check the vendor’s website for info as they often have an FAQ section for happy couples, then get in touch by phone or email to ask anything else you want to know.
3. Know Your Responsibilities
The last thing you need in the midst of wedding planning stress is to find out that you need to pick up and drop off your props on the day of your wedding… and oh, by the way, you have to bring the extension cords, display table, adaptors and so on. This is something you need to figure out ahead of time to save you a big headache down the road. This way you can be sure you have everything in place before the wedding day or delegate this work to a family member or friend who can pick up anything that needs to wait until the morning of.
4. Know that it IS Possible!
The idea of coordinating one more thing for just one day may seem daunting – it is often said the devil is in the detail. BUT, that is also where you find the love – in those little details that make a day come together. It will be worth the extra work and if you’re working with a trusted supplier and you get organised in advance, then you will definitely have no problems adding those beautiful details to your big day.
